Group Classes

Group classes can be another valuable way to study the Alexander Technique. While students don't receive as much individual attention as in a private lesson, group classes offer the benefits of observation, group activities and discussion. They can be an excellent way to get an introduction to the Technique or focus on a specialized activity, and can serve as a useful supplement to individual lessons. Imogen is currently offering the following group classes:

In this class you will get tips on how to stand and sit well, so as to ease tension and spinal compression, a major cause of low back pain. Learn how to set up your chair at home so as to promote good posture and reduce strain, and how calming your natural breath can ease your back pain. Brandywine YMCA

For many people "good posture" has come to mean a rigid, uncomfortable tensing of the body, which is not only unmaintanable, but can cause aching muscles, restricted breathing and many other problems. The Alexander Technique takes a different approach. In this small group class learn how using the Alexander Technique for healthy posture allows you to release tension while improving alignment. Get tips on how to stand and sit well, and learn how to lie down in "Constructive Rest" - a way to allow muscles and joints to release excess tension, while restoring good, natural spinal alignment. This class is perfect for beginners to the Alexander Technique.

This class is offered free to YMCA members as part of "Love Your Body" month.
Class size is limited - sign up early to be sure of a place.
